My last three days here have been amazing, and I’ve loved every minute. I feeI I have achieved a lot especially in the rugby session as I’ve never played before. Would love to stay here for longer it has been incredible and school just doesn’t compare. I want to say thank you and goodbye to all of the team. I’m definitely not going to forget these three days. Bye. – Donna.x :)

The last three days have been fantastic. I really enjoyed Robolab and we nearly finished all the tasks! I had great fun trying to make a smoothie, finally settling on banana, mango, pineapple, grape and a little melon. It was actually surprisingly tasty. One of my favourite parts was probably the club challenge and team games. They were great fun and it helped me learn to work better in a team. Oh and I’ve even learnt a bit about rugby! All the leaders have been fab, so a huge thanks to Pete, Jeanette and Vicki, you’ve made this a brilliant trip. I’ve learnt something new in every exercise, whether it was how to eat healthier, work better in a team or learning how to use Robolab. I really hope we can come back again. Thank you! – Rachel

I have enjoyed these three days a lot and have learnt some things which will be very useful in life. I loved the practical rugby bit it would have been better if we could have played it for longer. i also thought the stadium tour was amazing, we got to see the changing rooms, gym and other facilities. We had a taster of what it would be like to be a Saints rugby player before and during the match! We found out that maths could actually be fun and related to sport and is needed when managing and creating a club. – Daniel

My experience at the Saints Study Centre has been fantastic. The variety of tasks we performed was amazing and great fun! Most of them included maths and teamwork, however they put the maths into everyday situations that you can see yourself doing later in life, such as Robolab which shows you how programming and engineering includes maths.

The experience has really helped me and I will most probably remember it. I’m actually thinking about buying the Robolab package because I enjoyed it so much. I have actually enjoyed every moment of it and I wish it had lasted all week. Unfortunately we have to go back to school now! – Grant

Day 3

Today began with the ‘Club Challenge’ – groups had the chance to run their own club, buying players, designing stadiums and looking at the financial side of running a club to make sure they made a profit.

Some fantastic presentations were produced!

In the afternoon the group had a tour of the stadium and found out about the history of the club as well as having the opportunity to go into the home and away dressing rooms!

A huge thank you to all the team at the Study Centre for a fantastic 3 days. Hope to be visiting again soon!

“This trip has been fantastic ! Yesterday was so much fun we made Lego cars and had to program them using the tools on the computer it was so much fun. Grant and I had a great laugh making our car.  We won in the grand prix 2 out of 3 races. The computer based part of the afternoon was also fun which involved a lot of maths based questions. Today included rugby kicking practice which was fun but I failed at it miserably. Healthy eating was the session in the afternoon!  We had a chat about what fruits we eat and what we ate for our breakfast that morning.  I really learned about some healthier options. We designed and made our own smoothies. mine was blackberries with pineapple and orange juice. DELISH !! Thanks to Pete and all the staff for making it an enjoyable 2 days!! Hope tomorrow is as fun !!”

“This trip has been great especially the kicking coaching and learning the proper techniques! Kicking over the post was great especially when we started to go for longer efforts.the kicking course has been the highlight of my week as i like the practical sports activities!

Thanks!”

Day 2

Today the group has used practical mathematics. The first session was run by Barclaycard and the group was split into two teams, each group being given an egg to ‘nurture’. All the staff from Barclaycard were from the decision science department and talked to the group about their jobs before each team was given decision mathematics and logic tasks to complete. After each task they were allowed to pick an item to wrap their egg in – the final task was to drop the egg from a height without smashing it!

After a refreshing drink and ONE biscuit the group had a kicking session with one of the Saints community coaches. Despite being a little windy the session began dry, however it soon started raining again! It didn’t dampen their spirits and the group realised the importance of forces and angles of projection when trying to kick a rugby ball.

The afternoon began with our healthy eating session. All enjoyed trying the fruit before creating their own smoothie focusing on the nutritional information they would need to include in order to market it. They then had the opportunity to make and try their own creations!

Looking forward to tomorrow!

“The whole experience has been fantastic! It was definitely worth coming because it was so much fun, and also very educational. I particularly enjoyed the team games. It was enjoyable and helped us use our imagination throughout the course…….. I thoroughly enjoyed our trip and am very grateful for all your work.”- Daniel

“I really enjoyed the trip and I was pleasantly surprised by it, I didn’t expect anything like it. I wish we did the team building at school in forms like once a term or even more!  I enjoyed the club challenge and would have loved to spend more time on it. The Robolab was also good and very funny when we raced each other. I was also surprised by all the things we were able to keep! I had a wonderful time.” – Elizabeth

“The experience at the Saints Study Centre was a great one. I really enjoyed the team events and the tour of the stadium. The best thing we have done so far was the Robolab; it was really fun making our own robots. The only thing that could have been improved would have been if we had played a match at the end of the tag rugby session. Overall though it was a great expereince which I definitely enjoyed.”- Mathew

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Saints and I hope the school will do it again in the future. I am sure the younger children would enjoy it too. I particularly liked Robolab as I had never done anything as interesting, (and to do with science) in my life! I hope we will have the opportunity to return in the future. But for now…… GO SAINTS!” – Harriet

I think it was a good expereince and Paul Shields is really funny. I liked Robolab, the stadium tour, the team games and making the smoothies was the best. I think it would have been even better if the rugby was longer. Come on Saints!”- David

The Saints Study Centre team would like to congratulate the Wrenn XV on their hard work and wish them the best of luck for the future. A*’s all round!

Day 3:

Today was the last day of the Wrenn XV’s fantastic Science at Saints programme.

The morning kicked off with a fun selection of Kaleidoscope online maths puzzles, with the students having to create a range of challenging patterns using just 18 jigsaw shapes. After cracking several levels, the Wrenn XV took part in a healthy eating talk, and a fruit tasting session – delicious! After munching their way through platters of gorgeous fruit, sponsored by Waitrose, the group took part in an hour of rugby training with the Saint’s Community Coach.

The students played tag, learnt how to pass the ball, attack and defend quickly and effectively. They had a great session, and wore themselves out!

After a recuperative lunch break, the Wrenn XV created their own fruit smoothies and designed a poster to advertise their healthy drink, developing their ICT skills.

We’ve had a fantastic time! Thanks to all at the Saints for a great three days!
