On Wednesday 10th December the Saints Study Centre hosted their termly Presentation Evening to celebrate the success of our young learners. Over 350 children, parents and teachers attended the evening to witness the young learners receiving their certificates. The Study Centre team and many mentors were joined by Saints players Neil Starling, Lee Dickson and Christian Day as well as the Saints mascot, Bernie.

A video of the young learners running out of the players tunnel at Franklin’s Gardens kicked off the evening followed by a short speech from Pete, the Study Centre Manager. The County Jester, Kevin Burke was then introduced to the crowd to explain the reasoning behind the inclusion of circus skills in the PfS programme. He then asked for volunteers to demonstrate some of the skills learnt during their time at the Study Centre.

The young learners were presented with their certificates and congratulated by all. Not only did they receive their certificate but they were given a goodie bag full of Saints memorabilia which at the end of the evening they were able to get signed by the players.

The Study Centre would like to say a big congratulations to all young learners that attended the Study Centre this term and  thank you to all mentors who give up their time to support the young people.

This term St James and Hopping Hill Primary Schools have piloted the DSP behavioural initiative here at the Study Centre.

DSP stands for Designated Special Provision and in some schools caters for hearing impaired children or for autism but ours is for behavioural, emotional and social difficulties (BESD). The idea came from the BESD panel which is a group made up of Headteachers from schools with DSP’s. If a school has a child they feel needs input in this area they can apply to the panel for support.

Whilst at the Study Centre the groups of children have taken part in numerous activities including: making name badges; exploring Franklin’s Gardens on a stadium tour; creating an origami rugby kits; practising their circus skills with Kevin Burke, the County Jester; and taking part in a tag rugby session on the Saints training pitches with Saints Community Coaches.
