Science at Saints – Return of the Wrenn XV

Day 1:

Arriving early, keen and eager, the Wrenn XV started their three day programme at the Saints Study Centre with a series of fantastic team building activities organised by Barclaycard.

The Year 10 students and Miss Morris from Wrenn School, Wellingborough, split into two groups to undertake some gruelling team challenges. Those who completed the challenges well were rewarded with material to protect their eggs, Freggy Mercury and Cornelius.

The two groups had a great morning, walking on giant skis, creating a human marble run (with blindfolds!), solving a maze, and solving the stepping stones, flags of the world and river bank challenges. At the end of the each event, if the teams did well enough they were given cotton wool, paper, bubble wrap, tape and other materials to wrap up their egg, before throwing the egg off a high ladder or having it smashed with a rounders bat.

Team 2 created a great parachute to protect the egg from the fall, but came unstuck when the egg was smashed with a rounders bat by a vicious member from Team 1…(Harriet!).  Team 1 made an inpenetrable egg caccoon which protected their egg from both the ladder drop and rounders bat attack, saving Freggy from destruction!

After a quick lunch, the Wrenn XV took part in the Club Challenge, creating their own sports club from scratch.

A brilliant start to the programme!
